Default rear spring retard question

I've looked on here and I'm stupid so I need a very detailed response. I want to set up my suspension and in order to set the sag I need to adjust the rear preload. I bought my spanner wrench and I've read that there are lock nuts on the spring but I don't see one. Do I just stick the pin of the spanner wrench into one of the little holes where the numbers 1 - 7 are and turn? I know I'm only supposed to go one number at a time or I could break something. I'm just afraid to really crank on the wrench and break something when I was supposed to loosen something else first. I guess from what I understand I just stick the pin in one of the small holes and turn.

Ok so I basically put my crappy little spanner into one of the little holes and just about put all of my 230lb fat weight onto it and it didn't budge. I even busted out a hammer and put a wash cloth on the wrench handle and tried tapping it and still no go. Is there something different with the '06 F4i's does anyone know?

^^^ and also try putting a little lubricant on there, i had the same problem but after a little lube, easy as pie. wd40, motor oil, just about anything will work.

How would I take weight off the bike? If I throw it up on the stand all that does is raise the back of the bike up. As for lubing it up, I should just spray some WD40 all on the plastic black ring? I'll give that a try when I get home. I also picked up a wrench with a longer handle so maybe that will help.

no need to do anything to the rear...just stick the spanner in the square grooves and turn it...
the spanner is very short, you'll need to extend it some to get some leverage. then it WILL go.

I finally got it to go. I got a new spanner wrench that was twice the length of the first one I picked up and could finally turn it. Although to get it onto setting 7 I had to put one of my riding gloves on and push freaking hard! Good times

Thanks again
