Really can't say, there is just not enough information to go on. From the sounds of it though, it seems like you internal engine failure if the guy ran it without oil, and you hear noises... and it won't stay running unless its under throttle. that suggests there is enough interferance within the engine that the engine at idle doesn't have the power to keep it running.

No oil in the engine will destroy the bearings really quick. Also, the cams do not have bearings, they use the cylinder head itself as the bearing surface, so you can imagine if there isn't any oil, just how fast it will gull up the surfaces, which is probably what happened.

The only way to know if its fixable it to tear it apart. I would suspect a new head is needed, and all bearings replaced. Of course, this is only an assumption that the bike ran without oil, and the issues are stemming from that.

Have you drained the oil to see if there is any contamination in it? I would be inclined to remove the valve cover and inspect the cams. The noise very well could be the cam walking inside the journal.
