Quick Question about oils?
This thread is from another thread I posted on the 600rr section. However no one responded yet so I guess I will try here. So here is the post:
Don't worry this isn't a debate on which oil to use and why lol. I just changed my oil on my bike for the 1st time (btw she runs super smooth now ). So lets start from the beginning.
I went to a cycle shop and asked one of the guys there about oils and which one to use. I just bought my bike awhile back from a used bike dealer. So I never bothered to ask what type of oil to use or what oil the previous owner had in there. The guy at the cycle shop suggested that I run semi-syn for now and then after a few changes switch to fully synth. He also told me that once I run fully synth you don't want to go back down an oil grade.
My question (finally) is do I need to switch to fully synth after a few oil changes? So basically I am questioning the truth of what the guy told me. I didn't want to sound like a jackass and question him and I didn't want to look like a dumbass to call him out even though I don't know jackshyt about oils lol. Btw I am using Motorex semi syn and I can definetely see a major improvement in how smooth things are with shifting and accelerating.
Btw I read a post about which oil to use in another thread below, so I am wondering if this guy told me this so that I spend more money on his oil then getting a cheaper one that works just fine?? God it cost me $68 dollars on 4qts plus filter
.

Mixing oils won't hurt anything, nor going from one to the other. For the record an oil change is really easy to do yourself and a 4 quart container of rotella t synthetic runs a little over 20 bucks and a filter is about 3.
Go here and read this: http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Consumables.html#Oil
Happy riding.
p.s. I use synthetic and noticed an improvement immediately when I went from standard to synthetic. Smoother shifting and free'er revving. At least it seemed so to me.

thanks for the reply and the article. It was the 1st time I changed it on my 05 RR and I read some "how to's" that you would be abel to change the oil without removing the fairings on the 03-04 RR's. But it wasn't the case on my bike. I struggled for 30 mins on trying to get the filter to fall between the headers. I moved that filter in all types of position, but no go. So I finally just took the mid fairings off and unbolted the coolant reservior and easy as cake to get out. So next time imma just remove the fairings. Plus I know how to remove the fairings before since I replaced my rectifier so that was easy for me.
Thanks again and I will definetely keep in mind other oil options.

Your question is a little bit of the whole oil debate ...
Ow no what am I doing !!
As mentioned , mixing them wont kill your engine ,
BUT... allot of peeps will swear on bibles that it is not the preferred thing to do...
Me personally, ...chit I have always only used very standard engine oil in my bikes with no issues at all..
and I DO mix them with only one main rule
... if its clean , clear and slippery oil, it gets thrown in ....
Ok ...om ready for the bashing now .... LOL
