Question about New Batterys
When looking for a replacement battery I went to autozone, payed the 70 bucks and bought a non sealed battery. Now my question is after putting in the acid and sealing it the instructions say I need to charge it. That doesnt make any sence to me, could someone explain if this is actually even nessesary? And then I have another question about these sealed batterys I have been reading about, where can I get one, Im guessing they work similarly to a car battery. Having never changed a motorcycle battery could someone please answer theses newbie questions for me?
When you get a battery and put the acid in it, It will have a charge, possibly enough to start the bike, but it wont be fully charged. I guess you could just through the battery on the bike and start it up and let the bike charge the battery. But if i were you id just charge it, it only takes 4 hrs. or so.
Supposedly, batteries have a memory. You want it to remember fully charged. When I get a new battery and add the acid, I use the same battery charger I use on my car. It charges at 1.2 amps, but as long as it is 10 percent of battery rating (most bike batteries are rated at 14 amps) it will be fine. I charge it for 6 hours and charge it again monthly. My batteries last for four years or more. I also add water after charging as charging raises the level.
