Power Commander
Does any one know how to mess with a PCIII. I am looking to lean out the fuel to gain some milage because i drive alot of freeway to work. 70+ mph and at 20miles one way that gets costly. I also have never been able to make it go to high med and low. So I really don't know what it set at. Anthing helps. I have been to the site but don't really get it.
Just a thought what is the desiarble rpm for fuel economy. Gas here has already hit $3.00 a gallon and will be going up more now that summer is here.

I do use a comp to work it but i am not sure how to properly adjust the map.
My understanding is as the rpm goes up the lower you need the number for the fuel. Is there a really good how to one this?
I have tried the turn the key on and hold all three buttons and get nothing. How long do i have to hold? 5-10-30 seconds. I have tried for one minute and got nothing. Does it flash when you are in the manual mode? i have never been in the manual mode. This is my first bike but i have never messed with the pcIII.

Is there a reason you think your bike is running too rich?
What bike do you have?
Whats your current mpg?
Are you running stock sprockets?
Generally, If the Power Commander is already set for the best performance, fuel economy isnt too far behind. Believe it or not, fuel economy and performance go hand and hand. If you have the best performance you can get out your engine, your going to get the best mileage as well. If you run too lean, you will loose performace, loose hp, which in turn, will cause the need for more throttle to go the same speed you would go with your bikes fuel in the correct range. The same goes for too rich, you loose performance and fuel economy, but no real danger to the engine with running too rich, but there is a danger in running too lean. Most of the time, bikes will be set on the rich side just to avoid running lean. A little rich is not a bad thing. If its overly rich, then an adjustment is warranted.
Your biggest gain in MPG will come in the way of sprockets. Change them out for ones that will lower your rpms on the highway. Normally, this isn't something most people do as they are after performance first. But it sounds like you commute more than you play, so a higher gear ratio would do wonders for your fuel economy.

i have and 02 f4i and i have it all stock minus the pcIII. I get about 50mpg. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. It still has plenty of pull right now to knock me back in the seat. I do like to play but have never taken it to track. Never really riden it full potental except on full on straight away run a year ago in GA. I think it might be running rich because i get a flame out the pipe when winding up to 9k.
Your going to be hard pressed to get better than 50 mpg.
As for the flame out the exhaust. How many miles are on the bike? If its a frequent accurance, it may be in need of a valve adjustment. If your mileage is in the upper teens, I'd look into getting the valves inspected.
Having said that, its not uncommon for a bike to shoot a flame out of the exhaust. If you are getting on the gas hard, then suddenly let off. the throttle bodies shut first, and the injectors stop injecting gas, but this takes a few miliseconds to happen and can at times dump just enough gas into the engine to create an extremely rich condition, which can lead to a flame out the pipe. When this happens though, it is usually a pretty small flame.
If the flame is really big, or happening at other times other than when you let off suddenly, you may have other issues.
