Default Oil leak

Hi guys I am new to this forum and motorcycle ownership, I just bought a red white blue 89 honda cbr 600 in good condition, I am finding oil leaking around what I belive to be the speedometer cable on the front wheel. Does anyone know a solution to the problem, what may be causing it or where else it could be coming from, thanks?

Default RE: Oil leak

I think that the person that owned the bike before you has oiled the cable (and obviously a lot) & thats wot your see leaking out. On the later models its a different set up.On a lot of other bikes, the cable ran from a drive on the motor to the gauge. on yours, it runs from the wheel to the gauge, so there is no place for oil to be getting there from anywhere else. When you oil the cable, it slowly moves down the the wheel, it will eventually stop. If its excessive & your worried about traction, You could try taking it off any hanging it up somewheres so it hangs straight, so that the oil runs away faster.
