Exclamation Gas Leak Help

Hi guys,

I came to start up my bike yesterday after a couple weeks of not riding and when I turned it on, it had some trouble starting at first and then started revving normally. However, i look down and it starts spewing gas (the attached picture shows where it's coming from), and then the idle slowly dies. I am not sure what to do with this little spout, and I am not sure if there was originally something attached to it. The spout is on the back of the engine facing the read of the bike. What should I do? Thanks for your help.

That would be the breather hose for the bowls. it should attach to an air solenoid. If gas is coming out of it then you probably have a float that is bad.

See this diagram it is labeled "No. 6 Tubes"

Oh wow, thanks for your help. What would I need to do to fix the float?

Pull the carbs out and give them a good cleaning and adjustment. Shake each float to be sure there is no fuel that leaked into them. You can pull the plugs and see if one is darker than the others, this will also help diagnose which float is acting up.

if you had any sediments in the gas as well, that could have gummed up the needle valve (what the float operates to stop fuel flow), check that. once you pull the carbs, take some pics of the bowls, if they have a lot of discoloration, you've been having issues with the fuel that's been in your bike. with all the ethanol nowadays, it doesn't take much to make these bikes run like sh*t. and if you have any vacuum hoses not connected, the bike will not run right.

maybe grab another fuel filter while you're at it. couldn't hurt anything
