Default Oil Change TIME interval

Ok, so i have maybe a simple question for you guys but a very important one, i looked around and even in the owners manual of my own bike (06' CBR F4i) and couldn't find an answer.

So i bought my bike brand new wit no miles and changed the oil at 600 miles like the manual says, and have to change the oil again at 4,000 miles according to the manual, but i know i've also heard that if it takes long to get to the 4k mark that theres also a Time to change it in. I did the 600 mile oil change in summer of 08' (i know) and currently have 2,800 miles on my bike,(trust me i wish i could ride way more then i do) so its been almost 2 yrs. So basically i know i waited too long, but what is the timeline for future reference?

4000 miles or every 12 months is my workshop manual recommendation. But it also depends on what type of riding you have been doing. A couple of quick blats round town every week or so isn't going to let the oil get up to temp. Where a nice long ride will burn off some of the of nasties suspended in the oil (not all). Changing your oil & filter is one of the best things you can do to prolong the life of your motor. So every 6 months (or less) is not a big deal in terms of engine life.

Change it now for sure, but at the very minimum, once right before the end of the riding season and once before you start your riding season...

thanks for the reply guys! 6 months defenetly seems fair enough, even more so if it helps the engine out in the long run. So i guess that means i gotta get an oil change asap!!
