Default Off-idle problem

98 F3, From about 4800 to 6200 RPM the bike is cutting out and spitting and sputtering. It runs great up to there and once past it. If I am really on the throttle it runs through that RPM range pretty smooth. Just when I am cruising. The carbs have all been recently rebuilt. Any ideas?

Do you have a jet kit installed?

Is this something new all of a sudden?

No jet kit, The bike had been sitting a few years then the previous owner rebuilt the carbs. Then bike sat for about a year again. then I get it. I got it to run by draining the bowls and putting fresh gas in it. It ran great then started sputtering. I kept driving it and it got a little better. Today on the other hand it went downhill pretty fast. I am thinking I will have to pull carbs off again and rebuild them. Just wanted others opinions and hopes its something other than taking them off lol.

Definitely seems like a carb issue. That part of the band is generally governed by the slide needles so I'd to focus there. Make sure the rubbers in good shape and sealing well, the needles and jets are clean , and that the slides move freely in their bores. Then of course all the regular stuff.

I would agree it's a carb issue. Did you put an in-line fuel filter on it? Were the carbs sync'd? I had to clean my carbs like 8 times before I stopped being lazy and put a fuel filter on.
