Odometer/trip showing double miles - speedo ok
Hi,
I've got a 1995 600 F3 and I've got an odd problem on the speedo. Speedo shows correct speed but the mileometer and trip are counting up double the actual miles I'm travelling. Obviously, I don't want my mileage going up twice as fast as it should be so any ideas on what could be wrong please?
I've searched the forums and the net and can't find anyone else with a similar problem.
Thanks for your help.

Is it really double, or are you giving your best guestimate. Is there anyway you can determine exactly how much it's off ? How long have you had the bike ? Here's where I'm going with this. Is it possible that the speedometer was swapped out and they put the guts of a Canadian version speedometer on it and left the US faceplace ? Just trying to think outside the box.

Double miles
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
The bike is a UK model and I'm based in the uk so not likely the speedo has been swapped for a Canadian model. However, I believe the bike was raced before I had it so it's probable that the speedo has been taken off and put back on at the very least.
Miles are exactly double. I have a 16 mile commute to work and the clock showed 32 when I got there. Might be a few tenths out, at most a mile.
Any other thoughts?
I don't suppose the resisters I've fitted for the LED rear lights could affect it? Long shot!
Thanks

Sorry Chappers, I didn't realize where you were located. You're right, certainly not a Canadian swap out. Miles to Kilometers would be what I was thinking. No, the resistors wouldn't do anything to it. They only draw more current for the blinker circuit, that way it blinks at a slower rate.
As to why your speedo is out, I don't know. How does your RPM compare to speed ? Like, if you're going 5000 RPM in 6th gear, how fast are you traveling (according to your speedometer) ?

I've discovered what it is.
Hi,
Well, went out on the bike yesterday and noticed (in gry on a black background in very small letters) that the odometer reading is in KMH even though the speedo is in MPH. I'm guessing somebody has changed the clocks at some point in time.
It's solved the riddle but I'm not keen on the "mileage" going up so quickly.
Cheers
