Default odometer rollback?

Here's the deal, I bought a bike at a salvage place to rebuild. When i got it the gauge cluster was broke and the only working thing was the odometer, which read right around 12900. My buddy gave me a set of gauges and they're readying 23k, and I need to know how to roll these back to where they should be. thanks.[/align]

I think its illegal to do thatif you areplanning to fix it up to sell. If your just fixing it up for yourselfwho cares what it says, you know what the actual miles are. And if it really bothers you buy a new cluster with less miles already on it.

actually, due to it being actual miles (states in on title), it's legal to return my gauges to their correct mileage after purchasing a new cluster

Its not a new cluster, it has 23K on it. I'm pretty sure those things are not designed to allow you to roll them back, it you need to reset it you have to go all the way around, like an old alarm clock

I'm fine with that, so long as someone knows how. If i could find a gauge with lower miles and roll it up, that would be cool too.

If you roll it back it willlikely break....I bought a bike that was rolled back...it never went pass the mileage mark where it was at roll back..

Hook that baby up to a cordless drill using the cable and a clamp on the trigger...going forward is the safest bet.

Technically speaking, the title should get marked odometer discrepency....if you order a new one, this is mandatory....I know it is on a car in my state anyway. You already have a salvage title to set the bikes value, any buyer would expect a new gauge cluster. What I would do is just keep the old parts. Get a signed statement from your friend what the mileage was on the new cluster when you bought it....waa-laa...a reasonably convincing arguement that the bike doesn't have 23K on it.

well the title reads 12900, and seeing how it didn't run when i got it, there definately isn't any more mileage on it.
