Default Odometer question

So I have a 99 f4 and I am going to be replacing the gauges, but before I do I have a question about the odometer. Is the odometer controlled by the Ecu or is it actually kept track of in the gauges? Basically does it matter how many miles my new gauges had on them ? Or will it read the parts bikes current mileage?

It will read whatever is in the cluster.

Becareful if you put a cluster in with less mileage and sell in without documentation of the actual mileage on the bike as you could be looking at fraud as they would look at it as odometer tampering.

Its stays with the cluster. There are various places online that will reset it for you if you provide proof of actual miles.

Or just note the variance from indicated (in most states) on the title and your fine.

On a bike that old the milage has virtually no effect on value so its really a moot issue regardless.
