Default Digital odometer question

I have imported my 2005 cbr1000 and I want to avoid paying VAT.
If my bike shows only 500 miles, I may have to pay this extra tax.
Is there any was of disconnecting the back of the speedo so it wont show the milage, will the bike still start and run if the odometer is disconnected?
Or is there a point at the gearbox I can disconnect so the milage wont show?
All I want to do is hide the milage, what is the best way of doing this without having to change the clocks and buying one with higher milage?
