Thumbs down No Fast Idle

Hello People,

A week ago today I did a few mods to my bike to get it ready to be run on the Dyno. I put in a PCIII, K&N air filter and did the kleen air mod. I talked to Power Commander and they told me that the O2 sensor eliminator would allow the guy tuning my bike to tune lower rpms between 0-4,000rpm. He also said if I didn't add the O2 eliminator, the O2 sensor in my the mid pipe would tell my on board computer one thing while my PCIII would tell it something else. So the two computers would be fighting each other. So after hearing this I thought it only made sense to put the O2 sensor eliminator in since the bike was getting a custom tune.

Anyways after riding my bike all week I noticed when starting my bike cold, it wouldn't fast idle. I would start it up and the bike idles at 1,200 rpms and sounds like garbage. Once the bike warms up, the idle goes to 1,400 rpms it purrs like a kitten.

Now my questions are, is this normal?
Should I put the O2 sensor back in my mid pipe or will that eff up my custom map?
Leave the bike as-is? The only thing I'm worried about if I leave it like it is now, is once winter hits. Will the bike even start when its 45 degrees out since there is no fast idle any more?

The fast idle is not determined by the O2 sensor or even the ECU. It is rather more simple than that.

Near the edge of your throttle bodies you have a device called a wax idle unit, this has a little rod that pushes the throttle open slightly to increase the idle speed, as the coolant heats up it passes into the throttle bodies and warms up the wax idle unit. The wax melts and the little arm comes away from the throttle lowering the RPM.

If yours is no longer fast idling then check to see if the arm on the wax idle unit is returning to the outward position when the bike is cold.

Thx for the reply Donny..

Is this something that would be covered under my Honda Protection Plan? I'm not seeing anything in the How-To section for fixing wax idle unit so I can tackle it myself.

Ok, I pulled everything off to get a good look at this wax unit. In the pic should the rod move up or down to engauge fast idle?

After playing with the rod(on the wax unit ) it looks like its stuck fully extended. When I start up the bike and push the rod down, the idle(rpms) on the bike goes up. So I just ordered a new wax unit and seal kit from the local Honda dealer. I'm not looking forward to pulling off the throttle body to fix the wax unit. I guess its better then waiting 1-3 weeks for it to get done at the Honda dealer.

Thx again Donny

Sorry for the late reply, I don't come on here often, i'm more of a passing resident tbh .

How did replacing the wax idle unit work out?
