Default High idle and getting hot fast.

I had a leaking water pump so I fixed it last night. I started her up this morning and it idled at 3500 and the temp's rose quick. I mean they JUMPED from 185 to 217. Can this be from air in the system? Would that cause a high idle and a high temperature? It's one thing after another with this bike.

EDIT.

I added more coolant and ran it with the radiator cap off for a few minutes and it fixed the idling part. The fan wont come on and it is still running hot. I think I might not have enough coolant in her but I put a good amount in the rad. and topped the overflow 2 times.

My fan is finally coming on at around 232.. I think this is way to high considering it used to come on at 220, than 225 and now 232? Why would it change?

You replace the water pump. You prolly introduced air into the cooling system. Bleed the radiator and confirm your connections
