Default New thang won’t start

Just bought a project 1999 cbr600F4 this last Sunday, thing ran pretty well once I upped the idle, changed the battery, and gave her some good gas.

However, the key is broken inside the ignition. No biggie ‘cuz it starts instantly, runs good. Problem is in the fact that the tiny bit of the key ain’t in the gas cap so couldn’t open that. Decided to replace both with a matching set from eBay.

While I was swapping them, I turned the bike on to check the ignition worked (just turned on, didn’t start). My impatient *** cut the original cables to get em out easier when I installed the new one. Now my bike cranks but don’t start. I can hear the fuel pump gurgle a little bit but nothing. I’ve been starting this thang every morning since Sunday to hear the BRAAAAP (Two Brothers Exhaust) so I know it starts and starts in like two cranks, max.

What do you fellas think I’m looking at here? Just wanna know if I should start at the new ignition or if I’m looking at the engine being a PITA. Also, changed oil Monday but I can’t imagine that being a problem.

oh, and the fork lock works so I’m pretty sure the ignition block thing is set up right.

First time post here btw
thx

Welcome to the forum, lets have some pics!!

I would suspect the ignition as it was working before you changed it and loads of folks have had trouble with non-oem ignition as there should be a diode on the pink wire in the ignition which reduces the voltage from 12v to c.9.2v and most aftermarket ignitions do not seem to have this!

Re-wire the old ignition to make sure.

Well I definitely cut and threw away the old ignition as I’m a fricken idiot. I’m guessing I should just get another set that does have a diode??

I think that there is a way to test this rather then just throwing money away trying another ignition which involves using a 9v battery to fool the ignition into working, just can't recollect of the top of my head.

Have a search around on the forum and whilst you are doing that hopefully one of the others will jump in with the answer.

Shame you threw the other one away
