That being said I'm intent on cleaning the carbs now. Gonna start pulling em off tomorrow as I should be receiving the cheapo eBay "D" shaped Pilot jet tool on monday

Sounds like it's definitely not running lean if it dies w/ the choke on, but still probably the best place to start is with the carbs. By the way, where are you at in NorCal if you don't mind my asking?

So I pulled the carbs and cleaned em along with the jets. 2 of the idle jets (cylinders 3 & 4 if ur going left to right while sittin on the bike) we're a little hard to see brought at first so hopefully that was the major problem, air filter was dirty as hell and I'm gonna check valves tomorrow so hopefully that will be ok. Spark plugs didn't seem too bad but I got new Plugs air filter fuel filter coming anyway.

I have one other question. When u guys clean carbs do u pull out the pilot screws and spray carb cleaner under them too or is that a bad/unnecessary idea. And if u do pull em do u have to change the oring under there?

Too far away to meet up for a ride.. I'm about 45 min past Sacramento on I80

I've never pulled the pilot screws out when I've done mine just the jets and sprayed everything out from there. If you do decide to remove them make sure you turn them clockwise first and count the turns till they're seated. That way you'll be able to set them back to where they were before. They should have limiter caps installed on them too unless someone's already been in there and adjusted them.. that could possibly be part of the problem if they weren't adjusted correctly. You can set them by the service manual if you have a digital tachometer that can read in 50 rpm increments.

Yeah that's a bit far haha. But if ur on the bay area riders forum and u ever decide to do one of their group rides u should message me so Ivan actually thank u in person haha.

Yeah I read about adjusting them just wasn't sure if I needed to clean under them too. Cylinders 1 & 2 are about 2.5 turns out and the other two are about 2.75 turns out. Thanks again.
