Default Lots Both Keys | No Recorded Key Code | Options?

Hi all, I lost both my keys for my Honda CBR500RA 2016 (No HISS) and didn't think to record my key code (my mistake).

Have you been in the same situation? What did you do?

So far, I've
- contacted locksmiths (got quoted around $350-450 for 2 keys, because it's a "high security key", lazer cut)
- contacted the dealer (doesn't have my key code on record. Also said you can't order keys from Honda based on VINs so my other option is to replace the lock set which will run $330 + 2 hours labor)
- decided to find the key code myself (presuming I can find it by removing the ignition barrel); looking for the service manual to help.
- contacting Honda next for their suggestions (TBD)

In the meantime, thought I'd give this forum a shot. If this happened to you, how did you deal with it?

I'm currently in a similar situation with my 2017 CBR500R except I do have my old key. I went to a locksmith and they said that they don't carry the blank key for my bike but they said they can cut me one if I bring them a blank. I tried contacting the dealer as you did and they said they have to have the key code to cut one. Contacted Honda as well but their automated voicemail says they don't keep key codes on file. I might just see if a dealership sells blanks for it and go to the locksmith, we'll see. Any updates on your situation? I hope I won't have to take apart the ignition just to get a spare key.

Then why don't you buy a blank online and then ask the locksmith to cut it for you?
