Default Has anyone cut down a yoshi bolt on?

Hey guys,

Ive got a yoshi bolt on for my CBR 954 that I want to cut down, Has anyone cut down yoshi's before?

I took it to an exhaust shop to get them to do it and they were telling me i cant do it because it taper's from large to small from the inlet to inlet.

He thinks I will wreck it, anyone done it?

also is there anyway to get a better sound out of it? Ive heard you can remove a silencer or something?

heres a pic

if you want it short do it! i did it to my scorpion. it sounds way better, well i guess thats an opinion, its a little deeper and louder. just about at the perfect point for me. just if you do cut it down be careful with which way you put the core back in. if its put in the wrong way the packing will fly out. i think you just put the cut side toward the midpipe.
my buddy cut his yoshi and it turned out just fine. it was on a gsxr 1000, i dont know if that makes a difference or not.

If it does in fact taper, you're going to have some problems. Easy way to find out is to measure circumference at each end of the can and compare. I've never seen a can that I can recall which tapered, but who knows. If it does taper and you still want to try it you'll probably have to look at welding instead of reusing rivets on the cap, and that will probably be a nightmare unless you're a good welder.

On a side note, that looks like an RS3 (what I have) and I know the RS3's don't taper.... It would help to know what kind of pipe it is.

chuckbear,

Im not entirely sure what yoshi it is because I bought it second hand.
Its a fully round stainless one. It does look like RS3 but has different badge.

Yea I'd start by measuring the circumference of the can at each end. If they're the same, it's not tapered.

Like I said, I've never heard of or seen a tapered can (at least for a side-mount) and it doesn't really look like it is... but who knows.

Measure it up and see!

I have a D&D that was cut down, it's carbon. needs to be repacked now but looks 100% better short. It's about 2 ft long now

I did one also!! I think you can overcome the taper issue by making a couple small inline cuts at the end of the inner core to conform it to any diameter change. As long as the core fits over the tip outlet, you're good. Another thing that's important is using BLIND rivets.. I've seen some guys that used standard rivets and get little exh puffs out of each rivet hole. Little smoke rings aren't so cool! ...lol
