There's more side play in a chain than people may think.

Boy, I wish it ws that easy! Like I said, Rk's web site only says the correct amount OF FLARE, (not the diameter of the pin after its flared). Not trying to shout at you guys by the way. I'm sure some of you are annoyed with me by now or thinking "what the $%#! ". I have a haynes manual. Nothing in there. Also, the RK kit that the chain comes in mentions nothing in the instructions. It's just your basic make sure its even and not cracked blah blah etc. When I emailed RK, they sent me the pin length , not the diameter (hate when that happens). I now have 2 options : 1) be satisfied with my flare job and hope it works 2) buy a new master link and measure the diameter of the pin to know what it was before I used the tool on it. Ok. Lets end this thread

OOps , was supposed to quote tahoerider. By the way vfrman , the widths were exact. That was easy to do. Just compared to the other links. So, I'll go with what boredandstroked said. Ok. Now lets end this thread.

Yeah. I guess it doesnt take much. Im sure mine is correct . i know its at least that much. There is no kinking or anything and it seems to be fine. i got another master link coming anyway. got it free on a amazon gift card. Nice to have a spare. So once I get it I will measure anyway. I'm just curious now. Nobody tells you to measure before you flare! I must have watched every youtube video and not one person mentioned it. Either do any instruction manuals. After going on RK's site and reading the faq was the first mention I saw of any measurement (for a flare amount).

My DID chain gave a spec for the total width of the rivet after installation which makes it pretty easy. Not sure why the other manufacturers don't do the same thing.

Ok, so i got my spare master link and measured my flare on the rivet job I did: 1/32" (.5mm) perfect baby! RK specs say to have a .152- .5 mm and no more than .7mm. Good instinct that I used. I'm proud of myself for a first chain job. NOW, let's end the thread. Unless, you guys wanna congratulate me first. Hehehe.
