Clip or Rivet for Chain ??
This has come up before. I'm not going to trust a clip type when I replace my chain. I guess some people do, but to me, it's not something I feel comfortable with.
Just a Warning,I had a clip on my RK,My Bro had 1 too till it came off and the chain filled the front sprocket and lock the rear wheel up,Crash he went down,we had a helluva time gettin the front sprocket cover off and gettin the chain out,The bike had some scrapes(it was a low speed crash)he was road rashed, but all in all bike was O.K.....I immediatelly changed to a press in......Better him than me.Its always good to learn from sum1 elses mistakes
I didn't have problems on my gixxer with a clip type, though I think I would go with the rivet type next time for peace of mind. I think I got the clip because it was somewhat cheaper, but possible effects can amount to more than the small difference.
Either is really fine. The master link is designed to handle the tinsle strength equal to that of the primary chain links. What is important that you get a chain that is right for your bike. Chain size (eg. 520, 25, 30) isn't really as important as the strength of the chain.
Personally, I've had both. They work fine either way. What is important on the clip type is that you press the cover on the link parallel, and you don't bend the clip at all. As long as it's positioned correctly and facing the opposite drive direction, there should be no problems. What I've seen on the press type is that the person doing it, needs to know how far to mushroom out the heads. If your using like a motion pro chain breaker/ press, then goin easy with it.
I've seen the typical chain smash, splash, crash. Never seen one go because of the master link alone. Usually it's because of hte person that put the clip on backwards, didn't snap it correctly behind the pins, etc... And I've also seen a Tsbaki 12,000 lb tinsle strength chain, with a rivet link, just shatter on a tl1000.
I didn't search the threads before, so I dont know about this being repeated but nevertheless its an important topic that should be thrown up every now and again.

yes rivit is better, but clip will work. just make sure the clip is still in place everytime you go for a ride. i havent had a problem with it yet. (knock on wood)
between clip or rivet rivet is absoutly then safest way to go,butE.K chainsmakes a new screw on type master link that me and a couple buddys are running.they claim its stronger than a rivit link and you do not have to buy any special
tools..ive had it on since last season and no problems with it yet.(im knocking on wood right now).ck it out ...e.k chains

p.s i would never run a clip type master link i have busted dozens racing dirtbikes and thats not even half the torque of a street bike...at 120mph a clip breaking loose is not gonna be much fun..
