I have a small leak from my CBR900 petcock cover. Will this causethe bike to start for a few minutes then shut off?

No.. but it may cause the bike to spontaneously combust. I would order a new petcock asap unless you want the bike to burn. If you are looking for the insurance claim just stand back at a safe distance and throw matches.
