Default fuel pump

Im 99.9% sure I don't have one, what my bike uses is a petcock and runs off the vacume. Reason I bring this up is I hear the term fuel pump alot and was wondering what bike models and years have one. Or did my bike at one point have one and then someone removed it?

So in order to have a fuel pump you have to have EFI? That's what I thought too but my buddys F1 has a fuel pump or what I believe is a fuel pump?

I remember reading some threads in the F2 section about people buying a fuel pump and modding their bike to take it. So i guess you dont have to have EFI to take a fuel pump. I guess it just comes down to looking and seeing what the persons bike has.

my 2000 f4 (carbed) had a fuel pump most sport bikes do have fuel pumps my buddys f3 had one, fuel will still get to the motor without one but its optimum with one. when you start doin mods like exhaust or airfilters etc the bike can start to sputter under load from lack of fuel

a lot of carbed bikes use fuel pumps. Fuel injection has nothing to do with whether or not a bike has a fuel pump. You will see some models of cbrs have fuel pumps, then a year or two where they don't, then they go back to them. they varied throughout the years. It all comes down to the design the bike. If the tank has a low petcock, and high carbs, they will use a fuel pump. This being that the carbs are to close to parallel with the petcock and the fuel doesn't flow fast enough to keep the carbs filled. If you accel fast enough, you can run the carbs out of fuel as the gravity can't keep up. On some models, the distance is far enough that fuel pump is not needed. Even though there is a fuel pump on some models, they are very low psi. Generally, they are only 1-2 psi and act as an assist more so than a fuel pump. Thats why on some models like the F3, the fuel pump can be removed and the bike will still run ok with a full tank of gas and normal driving.

But your right. the 96 doesn't have a fuel pump. it runs off vacuum. If you search enough, you can find people that have swapped other fuel pumps in place of the vacuum. But if its working, theres really no need to make the swap.

Fuel injected bikes require high pressure fuel pumps. thats the only difference.
