Default f4i ratteling sound

just noticed this a while ago. At around 5 rmps there seems to be this rattleing sound coming from the bike when i accellerate and deaccelerate in every gear. Talked to one of my buddies and he said that its the cctl and that f4i's are bad about that. Not feeling particulary happy with that answer i took it to the shop and was told that a heat shield for the tank was loose and that was what was causing it. And im not to happy about that answer to i dont know what it might be but if you guys have any idea please let me know thanks.

wuts a heat shield?

honda's are known to make "bad" cam chain. They do rattle around 5K RPM but it's usually nothing serious.

Thats exactly what i said he told me that is basicly some heat deflecting materail between the engine and the gas tank so the heat doesnt get through and evaporate the gas. Sounded like it was the cctl and he was making stuff up cause he didnt know what it was because when i asked him if he could tighten it right now cause i just got paid he told me i should wait till i bring it in for the summer to dump the old oil and everything else.

When you hear the rattling 5000 rpm do you have to be riding the bike? If not start to take off plastics and see if you can figure it out by feeling around and pressing "here and there" to see if you can make the rattle stop. If you have to ride it then do the same with the plastics off while riding, just be careful. That is what I would do.

I am having the exact same problem on my 01, there seems to be ratteling towards the front of the bike and it was causing me some concern,

Please let me know if you find out what was the problem with yours because i have not had too much luck as of yet.

Thanks Much!

Its the automatic cam chain tensioner. I have the same problem and my local dealer even said that its probably where the noise is coming from. They are know to go out. Best thing to do is get a manuel CCT and heres a little tutorial if you're thinking about doing it yourself [URL=http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/85183.aspx] let me know if this is any help
