Default Exhaust leak at headers!!!

So I recently put a new black widow full exhaust on my cbr 929, and after getting the bike back together and starting it I noticed a little bit of black smoke coming from the canister and smoke coming from the front. After looking , it seems like oil is leaking from the headers, also the little hole under the headers . When I put the camshafts back in after checking valve clearance I put oil on the camshafts to lube them but accidentally spilled a bit. I’m hoping it could be that there was a build up of oil ? Or is it something else completely? Any suggestions?

Did you use new header gaskets? You can try holding up a piece of paper towel near the headers and see if it flutters to confirm if it's really leaking exhaust. Although I dont know that exhaust would be that oily. You can try wiping it down as best as you can and spray some foot powder in the area to see better where the oil leak is coming from. It could be from your oil spill but you wouldnt know until you checked

It looks like it is leaking from the head gasket, have you had a chance to clean it and start it again?

First: it does not come from the exhaust valves, becouse then your bike would smoke like a mother...
Residual oil on the exhaust is always messy and smokey.
When I'm done changing oil on my 954 (which is very similar to the 929) I always spill oil when changing the filter on the headers.
Even whiping it off doesn't prevent a significant smoke cloud when running warm for the first time.

Isn't anyone going to talk about the elephant in the room? Look how beautiful those headers look! What's the deal with not cleaning the engine off while you had them off? LOL, could make for finding the source of the leak a little easier.

Hmmm, that is one area of the bike I haven't looked at real closely. Next time I flush the radiator, I reckon I should just to make sure the bolts are removeable.

Any issues with flow from the stock headers? I know a lot of Subaru guys would have theirs ported and polished to smooth out airflow...

Agree, great looking headers
I shall also be looking at the bolts on mine over the next few days to see if I can get them off to liberally apply anti seize on them prior to the inevitable UK rust setting and ruining them and the pipes (good reminder to also do a radiator flush)!
