Engine Ice coolant change.. possible gelling?
I recently drained my old coolant and replaced it with Engine Ice coolant on my F4i. In between draining the old coolant I flushed the system out with distilled water. I filled the radiator up and ran the bike for a few minutes then drained, I did this process a few times.
My question is, the drained distilled water was never 100% clear and after the second or third drain, I filled the system up with Engine Ice. I have been reading stories about gelling in the system with the OEM coolant. Does anyone think there is enough concentration of old factory coolant to do this? Just a little concerned. Thx

It is true that if engine ice mixes with any ethylene glycol antifreeze, it will gel. But if you flushed it several times with distilled water, you should be OK. How bad was the water draining out at the last flush?? Still have some green or almost clear?? And did you drain the overflow bottle too?

I would fill the RAD and the over flow up with Distilled water. Start the bike up and let it warm up, so the thermosat opens up and flows thru the system. Shut the engine off. Let the engine and Rad. cool down and drain out the water and fill'er up with the engine ice. That should flush out the system.

hi, i see that you have no mention of using a hose,i don't have access to a hose and was going to-
1-flush my 98F3 without the use of a hose by using water (not distilled) in watering cans untill the water runs clear through the drainage points (on my bike thats at the water pump and the bottom of the oil cooler casing)
2-then go through the flushing process with a flushing compound
3-then run water through the system again,-drain
4-then fill with the right amount of coolant mixture.
my question is,-
step 1? can i run water through the entire system by watering cans,or will the there be a lack of pressure to get past the water pump?
many regards,safe riding
