Default down shifting issues

so if im getting off the highway or just crusin in 6th gear on a main road

and its time to slow down i will use both brakes and shift into 5th, once i

slow even more ill start clicking down the gears to take off again, well

most of the time it works but sometimes ill try to click down the gears and

nothing happes like if i was already in first. i have to jerk the clutch lever

forward and back for the shifter to start workin again without stalling the

bike. sometimes it stalls sometimes it dont but its getting me pretty mad..

help please.....................( 02 cbr 600 f4i )

You need to release the clutch in every gear, while rolling. Sometimes folks can't get their bikes outta first (while moving around garage or whatever) without having to rock bike back and forth while shifting to get it outta gear. No worries

If you're jerking/forcing stuff, you're doing it wrong. Get used to downshifting progressively as you slow down, rather than wait to bump down through the gears before taking off again.

You can drop down through the gears and skip the ones in between (say from fifth to second), but you have to pay attention, as you stated, to make sure they're freely transitioning. If not, you can alleviate this by simply releasing the clutch lever until it just barely reaches the friction zone, then proceed in shifting. What you're basically doing in performing this, is allowing the gears to rotate (ever so slightly) so they may re-align, thus allow shifting.

It may sound like a lot to do at once, but after a while, it becomes autonomous.
