Default Crashed the other day, what kind of damage can this be?

Hi,
I was riding the twisties couple days ago and I ended up low siding on a curve. My first crash! I got up my buddy was asking if I was hurt and all i thought think of was if my bike was hurt. We picked up the bike and saw oil was coming out at the bottom. I ended up towing it back home.

Anyways, I uploaded some pictures of the damage. Im gonna have to get a tow truck to take the bike to a local shop, but since im unemployed right now, if the fix turns out to be in the thousands, Im just gonna keep the bike as is in the garage until I get some income rolling.

Can Anyone tell me what kind of damage im looking at here in $$. I see the oil coming out from the bolt pictured in the image. You cannot see the small drop coming out but its there under the bolt (under the metal plate where it has the honda logo)

You're looking at about $60 to $75 for the Alternator/Genenerator cover and about $300 for the lower cowl. Can't tell if the case is cracked until you get the alternator cover off to inspect crankcase.

Its hard to tell with just pics what the damage could be. But it doesn't look too bad. There really shouldn't be anything structural, but again, very hard to judge by just pics.

However, since the bike is at your house, I would take the fairings off, remove the stator cover and inspect things. Just guessing, I'd say the stator cover cracked, or the bike simply dumped oil into the airbox when it was on its side, and the oil is now draining from the air box.

The reason I say this is, you are short on money, and having a tow truck take the bike is costly, plus having the shop look at it is costly. you will probably be looking 50-100 bucks for the tow truck, 3-400 to have the bike torn down and inspected. All of which could easily fund your parts if you do the work yourself.

Oh, and if you are set of bringing the bike to a dealership, have a friend who has a truck take it in, or rent a U-haul bike trailer. They are cheaper than what a tow truck would be, plus, tow truck drivers could care less how much more they damage your bike. Your bike will more than likley show up to the dealership with more damage that it has now.

New stator cover and sand out the scratches of the fairing and you'll be back running for under $100.

Sorry for your crash. Most important is that you are ok.

I agree w/ above regarding repairs. Since you're on a tight budget, I'd do the fairing repair at home as well. You can do wonders w/ over the counter spray paints these days...as long as the prep is well.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the help everyone. Upon closer inspection, I saw a crack in the stator cover. Thats where the oil was coming out of. The second picture, if expanded kind of shows it.

Im buying a new cover online and will do it myself. Anyone else who has this issue, please make sure you use a torque wrench to tighten the screws and with to the correct torque pressure.

Looks like next is to get a new set of fairings

Edit: Yup will also need to get a tube of gasket maker.

Yup. I snapped one of the bolts tightening it too much the first time i cracked a stator cover. The torque for these is very small. Also, if you havent already, make sure you get a new gasket as well.

Good luck with the repairs,
