Default possible damage???

To cut a long story short, thanks to Wazza 57 (thanks again Waz) i can make an offer on an 87 cbr which i would like for motor/spares. Problem is it hasn't been started for 2 yrs and when the dude tried to jump it from a commodore (Aust car) probably 3.8 litre he thinks he has done some damage, possible starter or solarnoid, is this likely? Has been unable to start the bike since he did this. He thinks too much power went thru battery, etc??? I haven't seen bike as yet, trying to get some ideas first, i thought maybe lots of power has welded the solarnoid points together?? Any ideas will be helpful before i decide if i want to make an offer. thanks pete...

I don't think it should damage it, because the voltage should be in spec and that what counts. I would, of course, not have the car running.
If he didn’t use protected jumper leads, then things can go wrong

Hi Pete, hey I know it sounds simple but have a look at the fuses, when I was speakign to Peter he sounded like he wouldnt have checked them there is also another set of carbs as he said he had replaced them last year. Also if you do buy it I am after two items for my old girl thats if you wanted to sell them of course its the dask souround and the cover that goes up under the headlight and between the front gaurd

It could just be the battery. I had a dead flat battery and even though it was jump started from a car it wouldn't start. The battery had to have more charge in it.

Both electrical systems are 12-volt. There should be no problem with jumpstarting. Unless he got the positvite, and negetive cables on the wrong post. I agree with waz57. I'd check the fuses. If something went wrong. It should of blown a fuse before damaging anything else. Jump starting alone wil not hurt the bike. My battery is junk. If I jump start from a car. The car has to be running. The bike will turn over fast. But Won't start until the car is running. I've never had a problem with anything else. Good luck.
