Default clutch return spring install...

Hey guys, whats up> I somehow broke the little spring thats on the lifter (on the outside of the case) and have it jerry rigged so it works, but id rather have a full spring on it. I was told I could change just the spring by rotating the lifter counter clockwise and pull it out, but that doesnt work at all, so im gonna have to pull the case. When I pull the case, it says to put sealant on it before you put it back on..... no gasket? just sealant.... O_o... what do they mean by sealant O_o.........

thanks guys for any help. Ill be doing this hopefully next oil change cause you have to dump the oil (of course) to get it off... well, unless I wanted to get oil all over... hmmmm[:-] lol

Actually, you don't HAVE to dump the oil first, but its probably easier to. You could just lean it a little farther over than normal so all the oil runs to the left side of the engine, away from the clutch cover. I've done this several times at work and it was a great time saver. But yeah, it'd be easier and safer to just dump the oil first. As for the gasket question, I know Honda is proud of the precision of their machining process, but you're gonna wanna buy a new clutch cover gasket. The sealant the manual is talking about is probably HondaBond 5, which is a high-temp silicone. Typically, you put a thin layer about an inch long over the area where the case halves meet behind the clutch cover (two spots).

I had a small leak in mine so I took it apart and No there isnt a gasket for your clutch cover...I went straight to a honda dealer and they said there isnt one. I bought permatex black sealant...it is made for heat and is oil and water resistant, worked great still does work....I ride it everyday no worries. When you take yours off you will see there wasnt one on there from the start. Good luck its super easy to do...about an hour.

permatex black sealant where you get that... and about how much does it cost/how much do I need?

thanks for the replies guys. I was also wondering if there actually was a gasket available cause im used to using gaskets... I searched ronayers and bike bandit both and came up with zip, so yeah.

also, would leaving it on the kickstand push the oil enough to the left side to work on it you think?

You'll lose a little oil, but not a ton. Just put a drain pan and maybe take your right side fairing off. You'll have to top it off when you're done, though.
