Clutch problem?
Ok, so I know my clutch is slipping and am planning on putting in a new clutch kit here in the next few weeks. Now, when I went to top my bike out today it was weird, it wouldn't go over 135MPH. It's a 92 f2. I could understand that if I was redlining, but even at full throttle the bike wouldn't go past 10K RPM. I was wondering, is that because my clutch is slipping? Or some other reason? The gearing is all original and I have absolutely no problems other than the clutch. Also,\ I'm not sure if there's a limiter or not on the bike, any ways to check? Thank you!
There are any number of possibilities as to why your bike wouldn't go past 10K RPM if you were in 6th gear. A slipping clutch though isn't one of them. I can't speak for any particular bike, but it's a matter of performance. What is the overall running condition of the bike ? Does it pull to redline in lower gears ? How well has the engine been maintained ? Valves adjusted, carburetors cleaned, adjusted, synchronized ? Air filter replaced ? History of the bike ? Has it been ridden hard all its life ? Put it on a dyno ?
A slipping clutch would cause your engine RPM to go higher more quickly than the speed of the bike.
