Clutch problem?

Clutch problem?
I think I may have a clutch that is going out on my 01 F4I. When I pull the clutch in at a dead stop and shift into first gear the bike makes a slight jerk forward (slight meaning 1/2 inch to an inch). Is there an adjustment I can make to change this, my clutch doesnt engage until the lever is about a 1/2 an inch from being let all the way out. I have also noticed a grinding or rattling noise coming from the front of the bike when I'm at a dead stop and the clutch is disengaged when I pull the lever in the noise goes away.
Any idea of waht my problem is would help greatly.

RE: Clutch problem?
Mmmm, Sounds like clutch adjustment, although all clutches wear & as they do exhibit different symptoms.
What you describe, sounds like a bit of slippage, and may be fixed with something as simple as an oil change.
The noise your talking about could be the clutch basket, when you pull the clutch noise goes away, a bit of noise is normal. As your probably concerned (paranoid) that something is wrong with bike you tend to pick up on noises that have been there all along. Change your oil, and check it to see if there are any fibrous type pieces in it, sure indicator that your clutch is rooted.

RE: Clutch problem?
i have regularly had noise in the front, in most cases its dustand dirt in the front brake pads, not harmful but noisey yes, needs cleaning. the noise is often triggered by the vibrataions of the engine at particular speeds and frequency, which makesit disappear and come back.
