changing brake pads

hey was just wondering if u guys change out your brake pads or do u take to shop to get done?i`ve looked and it doesn`t look too hard to do but because i feel its more important to do right than on my car ,kinda scared will do something wrong,1 more thing how do you know when to change with out waiting for grinding? mines only got 4,500 miles on it but dosn`t stop like it use to i`ve dialed the wheel to 4 but it didn`t seem to change the easy squeeze only hard squeezing

it's just like a car! only easier!
at 4500 no need to swap pads yet...but basically, you just look at the pads..there's a wear indicator, which is basically a channeled depression that runs through the pad. as the pad wears, the channel slowly disappears.
as far as changing the pads, not sure what bike but most are the same. just remove the brake pad retainer pins, then the clip, then the pads come right out.
as far as stopping power, could be that you just need some flushing...you should change the brake fluid once per year.
