chain question
So, I havn't really cleaned, lubed, or adjusted the slack of my chain for about 3k miles. lol...I've been planing to get new sprockets and chain every since but never got around to doing it. Last night I noticed that when I started to take off, I would hear a sound that sounded like rocks hitting me. I decided that it was my chain. I checked it out today and it had so much slack, it was hitting my swing arm, 2+ inchs of slack. I'm cleaning it and lubing it now amd plan to find a shop thats open to replace them. My problem is the slack at the moment. On part of the chain theres a crap load of slack but when I check another section theres like no slack at all and its tight as hell. Do I adjust according to the section with the most or least slack?
You should check the slack in the chain about midway between the sprockets on the bottom portion of the chain. There really shouldn't be spots where slack is and other spots where it is tight if your feeling on the same side of the chain. If the bike is in gear the top part of the chain will feeltight but the bottom will be slack, hopefully that's what it is and not kinks in the chain.
dude u have what is called a tight spot(u have slack in one section and when u roll the rear wheel for half roll and check the same spot u find it so tight) that means that u need a new chain right away b4 it damages ur sprocket . it happens usualy when u dont take of ur chain (lubing-adjusting- cleaning) which u mentioned that u hadnt done it for 3k (crazy) .o get a new chain ,,

Chreck your manual for the actual distance, then measure it like this
You should have about 15-20mm of slack up and down.
