CBR600RR oil choice.
Hi. I’ve read all the forum pages I can and there’s no conclusive answer regarding engine oil choice.
I called 6 local Honda motorcycle dealers and each gave different opinions.
The most recommended option was that I should run semi synthetic not synthetic as this is Honda advice.
One local Honda dealer said in 2007 the engine design changed and since Honda recommend 10w/30 including and thereafter in both 600rr and fireblade. What do you guys reckon? Real world experiences ....
The previous owner of my bike used synthetic 10w/40. But I’ve noticed there’s a slight short lived tick on cold start which I reckon is related to the oil.
Thanks.

engine oil threads are not going to be conclusive on the net. I think all the 2000 onwards bikes can be called modern and should take a fully synthetic happily.
I have been using Motul 300V on my 2002 f4i and it has been going on with no trouble at all. I think the best tech which the oil companies have is found in fully synthetic-lot of trouble but if you compare specs on Motul website for their various oil types you'd agree-so I use it
I think the most important thing with oils is to change periodically

10w/30, yep.
Synthetic after its fully broken in.
Now, from what I can gather, if you are not specifically buying a motorcycle 4 stroke engine oil, then just make sure that it doesn't say "energy conserving" anywhere on the bottle. There is also a little emblem that mean "energy conserving" so look into that as well. From what I can gather, this designation has an additive package that is bad for the wet clutches. As our engines and gearboxes use the same oil, we need to be mindful of this.
