I have had to remove the petrol tank from the bike, which entailed disconnecting the petrol gauge sensor wiring, the fuel pipe from the tank to the petcock, the tank breather pipe, (which threads down to the bottom of the engine to fresh air) and another breather pipe from the underside of the tank. This breather is about 30cm long, straight'ish from the tank but with a 90 degree bend at the other end. It clearly should fit onto "something" as it has a clip fixing. I have checked everything i can see, which is within the length of the pipe but cant find what the pipe should fit onto? Any ideas gratefully received as its a mystery to me. The tanks back on and all reconnected except this pipe and the bike runs perfectly except for appalling fuel consumption! But the fuel consumption could be an unrelated issue.

 

Have you sorted where the pipe goes to?
Lift tank up and it fits near the middle of tank on the little metal breather on tank, it's if you spill petrol round cap and it drians off.

 

On the CBR1000F, the bend is on the tank end, then the pipe snakes down rearwards and goes between the battery box and airbox to drain out below the bike.

Hi Rockpool, very many thanks for your response. It's not the same on my bike, the pipe has an enlarged end that goes to the tank. The other end, with the 90 degree preformed bend, is the end I can not find where it connects onto. It must connect onto something as it has a clip to hold in place. The pipe can only be fitted this way around. So still confused but thanks again.

 

huh. On the 1000F one of the breathers is for inside the tank - vapor etc. The other is a drain in case you spill gas between the inlet and the outside of the tank (it's double-skinned). On the 1000F the vapor breather pipe goes rearward in front of the battery box and just vents out, whereas the overflow/drain pipe just points into a funnel on top of the carb stack and drains out there.

The vapor drain DOES have a hard, widened end on the CBR1000 - but as I say, it has no clip and goes nowhere.
Is there a chance someone got them mixed up and put the vapor tube on the overflow drain?

 

Doh! It just occurred to me that some of the pipes have stoppers at the end of them - if the pipe you're worried about is long enough to come out below the bike with the others - that's probably what's missing.
