I have already taken the calipers off of the rotors and i am trying to remove the pads. There is a flat head screw that goes through a hole in the caliper, the eye loops in the pads and back into another hole in the caliper. It is flush with the surface of the caliper. I am unable to loosen the screw (cant turn it ccw). I am supposed replace the pads tom but if I cant get that bolt free Im just kinda stuck with the old pads. I dont want to use an extractor because then I will have to buy two new ones because I cant free the bolt on either of the calipers. What do you guys use to free stuck bolts?

EDIT: This is a flat head screw that is flush with the caliper it is not a hex in anyway.

 

Is the caliper off the rotor? if you are trying to free the bolt that holds the pads, keep caliper bolted on the rotor. Loosen the bolt that holds the pads first, then remove the caliper bolt.

 

I already have the calipers off. I am trying to get the pads off now.

 

Trying to disassemble the pad bolt while the caliper is off the rotor does not give you leverage.

To clarify your problem:

You were able to loosen up the bolt that holds the pads, but unable to pull it out? Right?

Or

You are unable to loosen the bolt that holds the pad from caliper at all...

 

try some pb blast, stuff works wonders. or putting a length of pipe over the wrench handle to get some leverage.

I should have thought of putting it back on to keep the leverage, I will definitely try that when I get home.

 

Reason I ask is, if you are unable to loosen the bolt (that holds the pads) at all. Is because you've already taken caliper off rotor, so you dont have any leverage for a strong grip to loosen bolt.

Now if caliper of off rotor, and you were able to loosen the bolt (that holds the pads) but once loosen, you cannot hand pull it out...the pads maybe sticky/siezed the bolt from sliding out. If this is case, try screwing bolt back in, then out a few times, while apply some WD-40 only on bolt, then screw it in/out few times....whatever the case, be careful of the piston.

 

Got ya...ok, gently put the caliper back on, screw the bolt that holds the caliper to rotor on, no need to tighten all the way, just hand firm is okay.

Then try loosen the bolt that holds the pads first....use an extention, so you have spacing to work with.
