Default Cam degree set up

I have a 2006 CBR600RR. I am trying to set up the dial indicator so that it hits the top of the valve spring bucket, but the cam lobe will not allow it. I have Dale Walkers DVD and tried his method of bending a wire and attaching it to the indicator to clear the cam lobe, but there is no room for this as well. The buckets are barely seen. Any ideas on how to set the indicator up? Also is there any reason why you can not set up, take readings, and make adjustments from piston 2 or 3?
Thank you for your help.
