i know its accurate within 2 mph because i have one in my car so i would use it on my bike seeing as i have no gauges. What i want to know is if it is legal to use my gps as a way to verify my speed ?

 

Most likely, no. In PA, you must have a working speedometer. GPS won't count

 

What state are you in?

Also, be aware of issues with GPS speedometer use "all the time". If you ride around a large downtown metroplex, the signals can be degraded by the buildings. Cheap GPS units also do not update very fast, so they "lag" by a second or so.

In Texas, you don't have to have a speedometer, so it would be legal.

This is a good question, but I would take it up with your department of motor vehicles.
I know of people in some states putting baja kits on their dirtbikes to run them on the streets. Only thing is... some states require a working speedo for inspections. The answer was a gps.
But like I said, check your local/state laws.

Who is going to give you a ticket if it works? If you speed and get caught don't blame the blame the measuring device.

 

Well if you know your GPS is accurate you will know how fast youre going, in turn shouldn't get a speeding ticket. Unless someone is really looking at your bike while youre traveling down the road they might not notice you not having a speedometer/ gaugeset. Do you have your bike set up as a streetfighter to make it obvious you have no gauges? Anyways, youre in ohio... If they let ya ride without a helmet who cares if you have a speedometer right?

 

Pretty sure you don't need a speedo here, so no.
