Default Cam Chain Noise

Just picked up a clean '91 CBR1000F with 60K miles, but it has quite a bit of cam chain noise. What's the fix? Thanks.

johndoe is right. the cam chain tensioner lifter could be faulty. i don't know what it involves on a 91 CBR1000, but on my F4 it is a pretty easy job.

Yeah i just put a APE manual cam chain tensioner in my 900RR. I am not sure if tehy make one for your bike though. The factory one has to be replaced about every 20K. However, the manual one has to just be adjusted from time to time. From my experience not very often,
my buddy has one in a 600 F2 and we have put quite a few miles on it with no problems. The only thing that I have noticed about the APE is when the engine is running it will make a slight whinnig sound almost like a gear drive in a car. Just not as loud.

New cam chain tensioner is the thing. It isn't bad, just finished doing it to my '91 1000F. A good manual and a couple hours at the outside will do it. If you have any other questions you might hit the 1000F section of this forum. Many suggestions there.

im not for sure but your cam chain tensioner might be on a little too tight if its making whining noises.
