Default Brake Fluid Question.

This is probably a stupid question but i dont want to mess anything up. Does it matter what type of brake fluid as long as it is DOT 3.? or does it have to be motorcycle specific.. Thanks.

My bike suggests using DOT4. Check your manual for the type that your bike needs, it might say it on the resivour cap. You can use Prestone, Silkolene or whatever is available as long as it is the correct type. It does not need to be 'motorcycle' brake fluid. I recomend Motul600 it is pretty good stuff for $15 a bottle its not too expensive either.

Yep, I get the DOT 3/4 stuff from autozone.

Be careful working with that stuff, it'll eat the hell outta your paint and fairings is you let it splash!! (I speak from experience)

My bike calls for DOT4 but check the top of your bikes reservoir, it will say on there.
From my understanding, and someone can fact check me on this...DOT3 and DOT4 are compatible, but DOT5 is not. If you mix 4 and 5 it creates a sludge in your brake system.

I use Super Blue DOT4.
