Default Question about foot pegs and brake fluid reservoir

Hello all,

So, I noticed both brake and gear shift foot pegs were bent when I first purchased my 04 F4i and didn't think much of it. When I asked one of the mechanics who works at the shop where I purchased the bike, he said that it didn't need to be replaced and that they didn't look like the result of a fall/crash. He said just try to bend them out to a comfortable level and be careful not to break them.

Here are some pictures; does it look like I can bend them back to how they should be based on what they should normally look like? Does the bracket and foot peg look bent or is it just the foot peg or is it just the front rubber piece of the foot peg?

Also, about my brake fluid reservoir. I can't tell if my front reservoir has any fluid in it. It is just clear. Is that normal? I couldn't take a picture because my battery died, but will as soon as my batteries recharge for my digital camera. I know that the manual lists that the fluid should be between the lower/upper indicator, but I can't tell if there is fluid in the reservoir. Can I unscrew the reservoir to see or will it let in air or cause other problems? My front brakes still work, and don't think that they are leaking, so this is just a precaution. I would rather change the fluid anyway, but don't know if I can do it without the help of someone else.

Thanks for any help.

You can unscrew the cover to check fluid level and it will not introduce air in to the system. If your front brakes work then you have fluid in the system. Bleeding brakes isn't tough and you can do it by yourself.

Your shift lever is bent but if you can ride it I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think you can bend back aluminum without it breaking or being really weak. Same goes for your brake lever.

Yeah, you're good. See how it's amber colored, that's the brake fluid. Sometimes you'll see a little bubble in the witness window.

Yep, did mine the other day and the fluid is crystal clear Supersnake, if you take the cover off, keep the bike on the kickstand and turn the handlebars all the way to the left. This will make the resevoir level so it doesn't spill.

Is it me, or is there a small crack on top of the shift lever near the ball joint?

I don't see a crack, but let me know if I am just missing it.

I am interested in replacing this shifter anyway because I've seen what normal ones look like, and I think that this one is way to far inward. I'll try to bend it out, but like Some Guy #2 said, it may not work.

Whats up with the crack on the resevoir, above the ER. I'm sure it ain't a problem, but WTF, could be a sign of the bike being droped.

I don't think that's a crack; it's more like a scratch. When you take close-ups like that you start seeing all kinds of weird stuff.

Your shift lever is bent slightly. It is not a major thing, and you should only try to fix it if you feel the need. As long as the bike shifts fine, it's okay. Just looks funky.

The brake pedal is normal.

The brake reservoir should be checked with the bike straight up (not on the kick stand) and the handlebars straight. You will see the fluid in the sight then if filled properly. Give the handlebars a wiggle, too, if you can't tell.
