I ran out of time when I pulled the head so I didn't have a chance to thoroughly check them out, but a couple quick checks with the straight edge looked good. I plan to check them out more thoroughly when I have time. Anybody know a good way to clean the excessive carbon off the pistons without removing them?
Chances are any head you buy will be attached to a motor already. And as long as you buy from a trustworthy source, that's a good thing. Considering what I see there, I'd have a rough time trusting anything on that bottom end. One good solid chunk of crud making its way to a rod or crank bearing and you'll be doing this all over again.

That's a good point, I do see a few complete heads listed on ebay but I would hate to do this all over if there is more damage deeper in the engine. I've been looking at complete engines on ebay and I saw a complete running unit for $500 local pick up, just not sure if it's worth it/ I want to drop that kind of money on this thing. I still need to get new race plastics for it so at that point I feel like I've got more into than what it's worth. I'm leaning towards parting out to recoup my $400 at the moment.
