Bad ignition switch? (95 F3)
Think my ignition switch died. I went to start my bike and move it on the street to get ready for a ride. It started fine on first press but chugged a little and died. So I gave it a little choke and tried again. Nothing. But noticed all the lights were dead. Stranger still while I'm scratching my head, my alarm self-arms.
The way my alarm is wired, when the key is in the ON position it will not self-arm. If it is armed and the key turned to the ON position, it will go off and kill the bike at the kill switch. I checked the battery: 12.5v. Checked the fuses in the fuse panel: all good. My alarm isn't sensing the ignition switch at all as I tried turning the key with it armed and the alarm didn't even blink. Haven't checked the main fuse yet (my gf pissed me off and I'm in no frame of mind to do more than chug beer).
Before my anger makes me hit ebay for the first ignition + key I can find, where / what / how should I test to verify the ignition switch is gone. A visual inspection does show a cracked housing I didn't notice before. All the wire solder connections underneath are intact however. I also rechecked my alarm's splice into the ignition system and it seems intact as well.
Tools at my disposal:
voltmeter
butt splices
lack of fear of an electrical system
Haynes service manual with a complete map of the electrical system.
