I was wondering with the ape cam tensioner does it need to be adjusted often or once a season or something? is it easy to install?

 

I believe there's tutorials online, I remember them stating that if you are mechanically inclined (midly), you shouldn't have too big a problem, but you would need tools specific to the job at hand.
My shop did it for free, since they were already in the vicinity, doing a valve adj and tune-up.

If you need it, buy it ,and then figure out how you'll install it. Call APE up, they're pretty cool.
