Default sprocket alignment

sirs: bought a 2001 f4i never layed down or crashed. bought a new chain after 6000 miles. put chain on and measured axle to swingarm distance and equaled. rotated wheel half dozen times and it seems that the chain wants to ride on the right side of the rear sprocket. checked swingarm to axle distance and it was the same. wondering if this is normal or would it be appropiate to shim out rear sprocket to get the chain riding in the middle of the sprocket. or do have other issues. enjoy this forum. the cct segment was real helpful. appreciate any responses. daisy (its my dogs name in case your wondering) thx

Maybe the left and right spacers on the rear axle were mixed up. See if you can find a drawing of how the spacers should be.
