Default 96 F3 has low spark & wont start

So my '96 F3 was running great, the day before & the next morning I came out & started it to warm it up it ran at idle for a few mins. when I gave it a little gas it sounded like I had a fouled spark plug I let off the gas & it died, so I started it back up & when I gave it a little gas it would die. I did that twice until it wouldnt start anymore. So what I dont get is how the bike ran fine the day before & when I start it up a day later it sounds like a plug is fouled & now it wont start. I took it to a garage & the guy said the compression is good & he put new plugs in it but theres very little spark. So now hes not sure what it is & hes going to have to do the process of elimanation & I dont have the money to pay someone to do that & the new parts. Has this happened to anyone else? Or would you have an idea where I could tell him to start? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First thing check the r/r (regulator/rectifier). It controls charging and system-current
levels. They get hot and (being electronic) fail.

Look for signs of heat-related damage, both to the r/r and the connector.
If you see any signs of melted/warped plastic, cracking/bubbling of the epoxy-fill or
smoky pins...check out some of these links...

Hope this helps, Ern
