Hi,89 cbr1000f -k, no fuel getting to carbs,took the fuel tap out of tank,all cleaned up put back the way it came apart,rubbers all look good,when tip petrol down pipe engine runs ok and vacuum from pipe from carbs but still no petrol from on or reserve position,also if I suck the vacuum pipe no petrol comes out,am I missing something here or is tap knackered,

Was the bike running before? Wondering if someone else pulled the tap to bits and put it back together incorrectly??

I thought the Mk II bikes had a sealed fuel tap unit? 1989 should be a Mk II. There is a repair kit available for the MkII but you have to drill the rivets out to disassemble.

More info needed.

If there is a breather hole in the tank, could it be sealed/blocked causing a vacuum?..there is a fuel pump to consider also maybe?..tho doesn't seem to fit with your symptoms.

Thanks for reply Groutby,all sorted now,bought a repair kit,when went to fit it,found hairline crack in diafram housing,so vacuum was drawing air and not operating diafram correctly,second hand tap off e bay,kit fitted,purring like a kitten again,cheers.
