the only benefit there is to a 520 conversion is less rotational mass, but the downside is less chain/sprocket life. You'll be replacing them a lot, and they aren't cheap.

if you're doing this just to get the -1/+2 set, there are 525 pitch -1/+2 sprockets... which is what i would suggest doing for more street riding acceleration.

Here's what you'll need:

Front Sprocket
Rear Sprocket
chain
speedohealer

the 520 conversion shouldn't make that big of a difference in wear
unless you completely screw up the wheel allignment the extra wear should be nearly the same, and thats if the replacement sprockets are aluminum rather than steel

but yeah, the only benefit is the lost rotational mass, which isn't noticeable to most riders
racers use it because of the light weight but also because its easy to find a replacement 520 chain in a pinch

With a 600 wear is not going to be any different from a 525 to a 520, espicially if you use a quality chain. On a 1000 you may see a slighly shorter life, but maybe by only 500 miles or so. The biggest factors on chain wear is, aligment, the quality of the chain (and sprockets) and how clean / lubed you keep them.

You go cheap they won't last long, go quality and they'll last alot longer than you think.
