This makes no sence at all. The bike shouldn't be pinging on 87 octane and it most certainly shouldn't ping on 91. The higher the octane the more detonation resistance so if it runs badly on 91 it should run worse on 87. I don't think your octane switch had anything to do with the noise going away but stick with 87 anyways as 91 is a waste of gas and money.

Lol, its not going to make a pinging or weird noise for running 91/93 in a bike that calls for 87... keep looking for an issue!
